TECTUS ATEX RFID Disc Tag | ATEX Zone 1/21 On-Metal RFID Transponder
The TECTUS Disc Tag is a 34mm passive RFID transponder certified for ATEX Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas, engineered specifically to work on metal surfaces — a major performance challenge for standard RFID tags. Available in LF, HF, and UHF versions across five colours, the Disc Tag combines IP68 protection, a -45°C to +60°C operating range, and a robust polyamide overmolded housing for permanent installation on industrial equipment, machinery, and assets.
Description
The TECTUS Disc Tag is a passive RFID transponder built for one of the toughest combinations in industrial identification: permanent attachment to metal equipment, inside ATEX Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas. Metal detunes standard RFID tags and reflects the radio signal, drastically reducing read range — the Disc Tag is engineered to overcome this, delivering reliable reads even when bolted directly to steel piping, valves, motors, machine frames, or tank surfaces. A 4.5 mm mounting hole accepts a screw or rivet for permanent installation, while an optional 3M4604 adhesive backing is available for surfaces where drilling isn’t practical.
Available across all three RFID bands — LF, HF (including NFC), and UHF — the Disc Tag pairs seamlessly with the TECTUS MultiPEN triple-frequency reader, as well as with any standard RFID infrastructure. Five housing colours (yellow, black, blue, green, red) make it easy to visually classify assets by area, criticality, or maintenance schedule. The overmolded polyamide construction is IP68 rated for full immersion and dust exclusion, withstands temperatures from -45°C to +60°C, and is built to survive the chemical, abrasive, and mechanical stresses found in refineries, petrochemical plants, offshore platforms, gas facilities, and other Zone 1/21 environments.
