In Short:

  • Jacco Visser, Account Manager at Unique Lights B.V., visits clients on site – often in ATEX Zones.
  • Standard smartphones are not allowed in ATEX Zones, restraining Jacco from communicating with colleagues and documenting his work while in the field.
  • COBIC-Ex assisted Jacco by providing the right ATEX smartphone for his application.
  • Jacco can now communicate and document work without any latency when on the clients’ site, instead of relying on memory and notes to advise his clients.

Unique Lights B.V. specialises in lighting solutions for ATEX-classified and corrosive areas where safety requirements are strict and compliance is non-negotiable.

As Account/Project Manager, Jacco Visser is the link between Unique Lights and its clients.

That means a lot of time on-site — at tank terminals, industrial plants, and other hazardous locations where ATEX Zones are present.

The Problem

A standard smartphone is not allowed in ATEX Zones, meaning Jacco couldn’t take pictures on-site. Moreover, being unreachable by phone on-site disrupted internal communication.
For Jacco, that was an operational constraint. This is especially problematic because he couldn’t document the sites he visited, and these pictures are very helpful for constructing “lighting plans” (A technical floor plan specifying the placement, type, and control of lighting fixtures to ensure functionality, atmosphere, and energy efficiency.)
Without the ability to photograph the environment, you rely on notes and memory to advise clients.

The Solution

Cobic-Ex guided Jacco find the right device: the Bartec SP9 EX1 Smartphone.
Besides the (ATEX Zone 0/21) certification, the camera quality was an important factor in choosing this device. The Bartec SP9 EX1 features a 48MP Camera with 4K recording.
Implementing this smartphone into the workflow has improved the input for lighting plans, and Jacco is now reachable on-site.
Jacco’s verdict on our help: ”Expert advice on the options available for ATEX-certified phones and excellent service.”
